I thank the Lord, for everything that He's given me, for placing me where I am right now. Though things are turning out not what I want to be, I trust in God that He's leading me to the right and perfect path.
Today's verse:
Galatians 4:27 NIV
For it is written: “Be glad, barren woman, you who never bore a child; shout for joy and cry aloud, you who were never in labor; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband.”
Three days ago, as I was walking the street out to Quezon Avenue from our house, I spotted Ate Jean, our neighbor at Decker Home. She was going to Manila to attend a meeting, and I will be going to Divisoria to shop for my online store. We boarded an FX van, and from there in our chat inside the van, I learned that she was separated from her first husband who was a very intelligent and promising pastor. She was the one who filed for separation because her husband is a womanizer. She shared that she cannot bear a child, and this may be the reason why her husband made extra-marital relationships, even while being a pastor. This is very sad. The pastor may know about Christ in his head, but in his heart, he really did not know God.
Then, our conversation shifted to a news Ate Jean saw on the TV that morning. The news was about a father who killed his two children because his wife left him. As she was was watching, she cannot stop crying. How evil the world has become! Parents who were blessed to bear children were abandoning their responsibilities, even to the point of maltreating, or worst, killing their own flesh and blood.
Ate Jean also shared that she used to welcome a teenage mother and her kids who dwell in the streets, to their house so they could take a bath. But now, she learned that the mother just left her children in the streets. How ironic! Those who want to have children are barren. Those who do not have the means to sustain a family are so easy to get pregnant!
This verse today answered my question three days ago - why are some couples barren? Are they still blessed? Surely, yes!
From my reading in chapter 4, like Hagar's offsprings, children born from desolate women are slaves. But children born with a promise, like Sarah's offsprings, are free. For couples who seek God's heart but still have no children, they must not lose heart. God is near to them, just as He was to Sarah.
Next time I ask this question, "Why are there couples who deserve to have children remain childless?", I will point to Galatians 4:27.
Thank you, Lord, for opening my eyes to this mystery. Thank you for quieting my troubled spirit through your word. Fill all childless couples right now with Your peace that surpasses understanding. And may all parents living in poverty love and raise their children well. In Jesus' name. Amen.
