Recently, maybe because I am increasingly losing my physical alertness due to pregnancy, I often bump my head into so many things in different places. I bump my head onto the toilet sink, onto the car door, onto the walls around the house. When I get myself into these accidents, I often tell myself and whisper a prayer to God, "Lord, okay lang po na ako ang masaktan, 'wag lang si baby." (Lord, it's okay if I get hurt, but not my baby.)
God has put a wonderful motherly instinct to every woman who have or are having a child or children. That is why our mothers teach us, train us, correct us, discipline us and pray for us: these are their ways of protecting us. They always make sure that we are unharmed and in the right path in life.
I can say, that God is also like a mother (or a father). Just like my prayer to spare my baby from harm, God spared us not only from being harmed but ultimately from the eternal punishment of our sins by giving up His one and only Son to die in our place. Romans 8:32 says, "He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all - how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?"
Let us thank God for his love for us. Thank God, also, for the loving protection he has put in our mothers' hearts!
